COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
GLOVES, X-RAY PROTECTIVE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-G-36479# which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers x-ray protective gloves, suitable for protecting hands and forearms of wearer from exposure to x-rays.
Salient characteristics:
The x-ray protective gloves shall be a pair of lead impregnated vinyl plastic gloves with five fingers, soft absorbent cotton lining, and two pairs of slip-on (removable) external cotton sheaths with stretch cuffs.
The gloves shall be medium size (commercial size 10) and not less than 15 inches (38.1 cm) in overall length.
The protective elements of each glove shall be highly flexible leaded vinyl molded in one piece with no seams, and shall provide the wearer protection equivalent to not less than 0.5 mm lead at 80 PKV, except that any individual area smaller than 2 mm square or a summation of all such areas amounting to not more than 12 square mm may have a lead equivalent below 0.5 mm, but not less than 0.25 mm.
The gloves shall be unaffected by temperatures ranging from -30°F to +140°F. They shall be sufficiently flexible to permit operation of x-ray apparatus controls, palpation of patients, and be capable of withstanding continuous hard use and repeated flexing without cracking.
The cotton sheaths supplied (two per glove) shall be made from a suitable washable, color-fast, and durable, cotton material. The sheaths shall be long enough to extend over the ends of the vinyl glove elements and be held taut by the stretch cuff.
