The surgical operating gown shall be full length with a generous overlapping back closed by one set of tie tapes at the neck and by an all-around waist belt attached to a rectangular reinforcement patch at the front of the gown. The gown shall have a stand-up military type collar and full length raglan sleeves terminating in knitted wristlets. The gown may contain an additional set of tie tapes on the left back opening hem and on the right side seam approximately at waist level. As an alternate, the gown may contain a tunnel belt in lieu of an attached belt and a front yoke approximately two inches wide. The tie tapes may be fabricated from cotton or polyester dyed or undyed for the green gown. The gowns shall have color coded size labels.
Construction.
Stitches, Seams, and Stitching. The gowns shall be assembled using seam type SSA-2 with stitch type 515 (safety stitch), or seam type LSC-2 with stitch type 301 (lapped seam).
The gowns shall be fabricated from a colorfast jade green or bleached cotton sheeting as applicable, having the minimum properties:

For jade green gowns the color of the knitted wristlets shall approximate the shade of the gown.
The cloth shall not shrink more than 2 percent in either the warp or filling direction. An individual sample unit shall be acceptable up to 2.5 percent. However, a failure shall be reported if the lot average exceeds 2.0 percent.
As an alternate the gown may be fabricated from cloth, jean, cotton, class 1 or 2 as applicable. The requirements are as follows:
