Dimensional Examination. The x-ray protective apron shall be examined for defects in dimensions. Any dimension not within the specifications herein shall be classified as a defect.
Test.
Lead Equivalent test.
Contractor shall radiograph two apron samples at 85 KVP with Intensifying screens at an appropriate milliampere-seconds and target-film distance using a lead step wedge. The lead equivalent of the two samples shall then be determined. Failure to achieve an equivalency of 0.50 mm on either of the two samples shall constitute a major defect.
Weight test.
The apron shall be weighed. Failure to weigh 10 pounds or less shall constitute a major defect.
Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within the tolerance specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of Federal Standard 376, and all other requirements of this document are met.
