CAP, OPERATING, SURGICAL (Woman’s)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for VA Specification X-1555D.
This commercial item description describes a disposable operating cap which is for one-time wear by operating room personnel and personnel assigned to isolation areas.
Salient characteristics. Cap, Operating, Surgical (Woman’s), disposable, shall be circular in shape, not less than 53.34 cm before sewn, with covered elastic, machine stitched under tension along the circular edge, producing slight uniform gathering to bring the 53.34 cm diametric measurement down to about 30.48 cm in diameter with ends of elastic to be overlapped in distance not less than 1.27 cm and by a continuous operation the machine stitching to affix the elastic to the fiber over-stitching and over-lapped ends of the elastic to prevent them from being torn from the fiber.
Material. Shall be produced of any soft, non-irritating, blue or green, lint free nonwoven or spun bonded polypropylene commonly used in the commercial market for such caps when sold in the private sector. The material shall be sufficiently flame retardant to meet the requirements of the Flammable Fabrics Act.
Elastic. One strand line rubber, white, round and covered.
Workmanship. The cap shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Case (500). One case containing five hundred caps constitutes one unit.
