DIAPER, ADULT’S
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes an absorbent, disposable diaper, flat, (not contoured) to be worn by adult patients.
Salient characteristics: Diaper, Adult’s, disposable, wingfolded. Comprised of a soft, white, 14 to 17 grams per square yard spunbond polypropylene, polyester or rayon, nonwoven top layer. Pad is grid embossed and adhered to a white embossed polyethylene waterproof backing, and is continually sealed on all 4 sides. Wingfolds are tacked in place with hot melt. Adhesive tape tabs on each side. Average pad weight 100 to 110 grams.
TYPE I pad must be capable of absorbing 200 ml of fluid.
TYPE II pad must be capable of absorbing 250 ml of fluid.
When tested by vertical absorbency test (place diaper in a level horizontal position, meter 200 ml (TYPE I), 250 ml (TYPE II) of water onto center of diaper using a 1/8 inch (0.04 mm) ID funnel to direct the stream, allow to soak for 10 seconds, invert wet diaper into a vertical position by holding along the short dimension for 100 seconds, diaper fails if any water drips from the end of it).
