GOWN, OPERATING, SURGICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a sterile, disposable, large size surgical gown, suitable as a covering for surgical team members.
Salient Characteristics:
The garment shall be a sterile, disposable surgical gown, size large, fabricated of a nonwoven polypropylene fabric, with a towel. The design shall be sterile back with raglan sleeves.
The gown shall have long sleeves with stockinette cuffs and be a wrap-around type to completely cover the back. The gown shall be a pastel shade of blue or green and shall be non-glare. The gown shall be nonabrasive and free of toxic ingredients and dye.
The gown fabric shall be designed to resist strikethrough of blood and body fluids. The reinforced gown shall allow no more than 5 percent strikethrough when tested at 1.0 psi. The gown shall be reinforced in both arms and chest to provide the wearer both comfort and protection. The surgical gown shall have sealed, and not stitched, seams. The gown shall be resistant to tears and puncture, and be virtually lint-free.
The gown shall resist ignition and have a low rate of flame spread if ignited. The garment shall meet NFPA 702-1980 class I for flammability.
