FOOTWEAR COVERS, OPERATING ROOM

The General Seni.ces Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for A-A-30042B which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a disposable footwear cover for use by hospital personnel or visitors in operating rooms.
Salient characteristics:
Type 1. The operating room footwear cover shall be a nonconductive, low-cut, moisture-resistant, disposable shoe cover suitable for one-time, short-term use. The footwear cover shall be fabricated of non-woven, moisture-proof, spun bonded olefin fabric, with an elastic binding stitched to the cover opening, and an elastic band stretched into a full length sole seam, or as an alternate, an elastic band stitched from the front of the sole seam over the toe of the cover to the elasticized opening. The construction shall be closed-back style, and be such that the cover can be worn over any shoe greater than men’s size 13, held firmly to the shoe by the elastic binding and band.
The spun bonded olefin shall have no known irritating or toxic elements, shall be free of lint and objectionable odor, and shall have a minimum breaking strength of six pounds in the machine direction and nine pounds in the cross direction. The cover shall be blue, green, aqua, or other pastel shade.
